How It Works
Structure
All Tracks
Students meet one evening per week beginning in September and ending mid-May.
WORSHIP
Each night is three hours in length. The evening includes a time of worship. Coming to worship as a community is an essential part of our Christian walk. It is also a great way to take us from our busy day and prepare our hearts to receive what the Lord has to give in that evening.
TEACHING
SOM faculty are passionate about their subjects, skilled in their teaching and educated in Scripture. They model a variety of experiences for students to glean from and exemplify a solid love for Jesus. This time of interactive teaching allows students to learn in an experiential environment that is safe for questions and discussion.
INTEGRATION
Periodically students have what is called Integration Night. These nights hold flexible agendas and are used for open classroom discussion, Bible overview and small group time.
The School of Ministry is designed to be mobile. It is held in cooperation with churches and minsitries who desire to partner with MI in the training and equipping process. This also provides location flexibility to students. Each year, the location may change depending on the needs of the congregations and surrounding areas. If locations are not listed, please contact the MI office for location information at 651-765-9756 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Dr. Paul Cross brings over forty years of accumulated information, combined with his deep passion for teaching Scripture , to this track; taking students on a journey through the Old Testament story. Inductive study skills are introduced for students to learn a method and practice of observing, understanding, and applying Scripture to daily life. (More...)
New Testament Track
We are currently in process of exploring the possibilities of adding a New Testament Track. We are excited to offer students a biblical survey bringing them through the New Testament as well as the Old. Watch for more information to come…
Homework
Students are encouraged to be intentional about sorting through what they are learning. We desire to see the teachings increase knowledge AND transform hearts. For this reason, processing the information with different approaches such as reflection papers, classroom disscussion, Scripture study and prayer is an important part of SOM.
Old Testament Track
Students are required to read the assigned passages of Scripture each week and turn in the biblical homework as outlined by Dr. Cross. These will be a small Bible paper/project assigned about 6 times per year. Dr. Cross will provide the students with direction on these assignments and their due dates during class.
Graduation Requirements
Both School of Ministry (SOM) and Seminary graduates are recognized and celebrated at our annual Graduation Celebration held in May after classes have finished. This celebration is a highlight of the MI year where all students are recognized for their efforts and accomplishments. Last year, over 600 people were in attendance!
The 2010 Graduation Celebration is set for 2:00pm Saturday, May 22nd
North Heights Lutheran Church Great Hall, Arden Hills, MN
REQUIREMENTS
SOM students are expected to attend at least 27 of the 31 class nights and turn in the required homework for the Track they are attending as outlined on the 'About SOM Classes' page of this website. Upon completion, students graduate with a Certificate of Minsitry Training or a Certificate of Old Testament Studies.
SOM graduates are better prepared and quipped to live out God's call for ministry and although the purpose of SOM is not to prepare people for vocational careers, it may be an entry point toward this as some students pursue a Master of Divinity degree through The Master's Institute 3-year Seminary program.

Scripture
Required Text: Holy Bible, English Standard Version.
Students will be assigned sections of the OT each week, reading through the OT within the school year.
Subjects
Students will read through and study the Old Testament using a survey approach. Context, content and the relationship between the Old and the New Testament will be addressed.
