MI Faculty

A staff of adjunct professors teach at MI. Some are pastors in the Twin Cities area who have a gift and passion for communicating the Christian message. Some are seminary professors whose values and gifting fit well with our program.
   

Rev. Jim Anderson

Anderson JimPastor Jim Anderson is President and Trainer for Harvest Impact Ministries, and Senior Pastor of The Harbor Church in Hastings, Minnesota.  He graduated from Augustana College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota with majors in Business and Sociology.  Jim has helped develop a new association for former denominational pastors and churches named The Association of Evangelical Charismatic Ministries (AECM). He previously worked as a youth/young adult pastor at Our Savior's Lutheran in Albany, New York, was a youth pastor at North Heights Lutheran Church in St Paul, Minnesota, and worked for three  years in the banking industry. 

   

Rev. Paul Anderson

Anderson Paul bRev. Paul Anderson is Founder of The Master's Institute. He is the son of a Lutheran pastor, graduated from UCLA with a major in English literature and a minor in music.  He graduated from Luther Theological Seminary following a year of study in Israel.  He served for twenty-five years at Trinity Lutheran Church in San Pedro, California, before moving to St. Paul, Minnesota, to become the director of Lutheran Renewal. He has written many books, the most recent being The Father’s Gift and Dare to Dream, also Building Christian Character, which is a study of 34 Christian character traits. He enjoys teaching on renewal, leading worship, and networking with pastors.  His vision is to train the next generation to disciple the nations which he is currently facilitating a young adult ministry that touches over 100 young people.  

   

Rev. Eric Bluhm

Bluhm Eric smallRev. Eric Bluhm pastors the Fellowship Hall site at the Roseville Campus of North Heights Lutheran Church. Previously he worked as Associate Pastor at Brooklyn Park Lutheran Church and with Lutheran Renewal. He has been married to his wife LaVonne for over twenty years and has three wonderful daughters, Rebecca, Katie, & Natalie. He likes sailplanes, sailboats, wilderness camping, astronomy, and teaching and playing with his kids.

   

Dr. Gregory Boyd

Boyd, GregDr. Gregory Boyd is senior pastor of Woodland Hills Church in St. Paul, MN.  He received his B. A. in philosophy from the University of Minnesota, his master’s of divinity from Yale Divinity School, and his Ph. D. from Princeton Theological seminary.  He has been employed as professor of theology at Bethel College.  Dr. Boyd is President of Christus Victor Ministries.  Greg and his wife, Shelley, have three children.

   

Rev. Michael Bradley

Bradley MikeRev. Michael Bradley is the President of The Master's Institute. He graduated from Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, CA with a Masters of Divinity (MDiv). He writes and speaks extensively on “Being a Safe Place for Dangerous People!” and “Healing Wounds from Toxic Beliefs.”  Mike has a passion to see leaders being equipped to faithfully serve the Lord and His Church with vision, daring, and integrity in today's ever changing cultural and world scene. 

   

Dr. Guy Chevreau

Chevreau GuyDr. Guy Chevreau is the author of Catch the Fire, the first published work to put the “Toronto Blessing” in some theological and historical context. His current book is entitled, Our Eyes Fixed on Jesus. Dr. Chevreau ministers the Father’s love, Christ’s empowering grace, life in the Spirit, prayer and intercession, evangelism, and compassion for the poor throughout the world.

   

Rev. Dan Clites

Clites DanRev. Dan Clites is the pastor/church developer of Rejoice! Lutheran, Northfield, Minnesota, a 2003 church plant of Hosanna! Lutheran, Lakeville and the ELCA.  Before taking the call as church planter, Dan served Minnesota congregations in Cannon Falls, Brainerd and Clearwater.  Dan received his Mass Communications/English degree from Moorhead State University and his M.Div. from Luther Seminary, St. Paul.  Before attending seminary, Dan worked 8-years as a television sportscaster for WDAY-TV and WDAZ-TV in Fargo/Grand Forks, North Dakota.

   

Dr. Paul Cross

Cross PaulDr. Paul Cross is currently serving as Pastor of Saint Mary Magdalene Lutheran Church in Savage, MN and is also the Accessing Scripture and Inductive Bible Scripture Practicum teacher for The Master’s Institute in St. Paul. He is a graduate of George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia and also Luther Northwestern Theological Seminary in St. Paul, MN.  He also has a Master of Theology degree from Bethel Seminary in St. Paul, MN, and a Doctor of Ministry degree from Asbury Seminary in Wilmore, Kentucky.  He has been an Associate Pastor at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Pastor of Resurrection Lutheran Church in West Virginia, a retreat speaker at Okoboji Lutheran Bible Camp in Iowa. He also worked for ten years in the automobile repair industry.   

   

Rev. Kendra Diehl

Diehl KendraRev. Kendra Diehl, has committed her life to teaching and discipling others to know the Triune God and His Word.  She is a Bible teacher, retreat and Bible study leader, and has taught and ministered throughout North America for over 25 years.  Kendra is a graduate of Concordia College in Moorhead, MN and holds a Master’s of Divinity degree from The Master’s Institute.  Kendra is the Director, Spiritual & Character Formation at The Master’s Institute where she continues to live out her passion of teaching, discipling and equipping others to lead in the cause of Christ.

   

Dr. Paul Rhodes Eddy

 

Eddy PaulPaul Rhodes Eddy (PhD, Marquette University) is Professor of Biblical and Theological Studies at Bethel University in St. Paul, MN. He also serves as Teaching Pastor at Woodland Hills Church (St. Paul). He has authored and edited a number of books, including the award-winning The Jesus Legend: A Case for the Historical Reliability of the Synoptic Jesus Tradition. He lives with his family in White Bear Township, MN.

   

Dr. David Glesne

Glesne DaveDr. David Glesne was born and raised in Underwood, Minnesota, a small farming community in west central Minnesota. A life long Lutheran. Attended Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, Luther Seminary in St. Paul, Minnesota and received a D. Min. degree from Fuller Seminary, in Pasadena, California. Currently, he is senior pastor of Redeemer Lutheran Church of Fridley, Minnesota, residing in Coon Rapids. Prior to Redeemer, spent 17 years pastoring in Joliet, Illinois and two years serving a new mission start in Yorba Linda, California. My major vocational interests are in: 1) developing leaders in the church today, 2) communicating the timeless truth of the Gospel in a new generation, 3) reaching lost people for Christ, 4) calling people to a life fully devoted to Jesus Christ, and 5) encouraging people to become students of the Bible.

   

Mr. Kim Gustafson

Gustafson KimMr. Kim Gustafson is involved in training and equipping people to reach their Muslim friends, both here and overseas.  Common Ground is a residential training community that is also reaching out to Muslims in the Twin Cities area. Kim oversees, and trains during, the two national “Insider Consultations” (Yearly in the U.S./January and June) and several “Insider Consultation” internationally each year. Kim was a Navigator Area Representative from 1973 – 2008 and Founder and President of Common Ground Consultants, Inc., 1996 to present.
   

Dr. Helmar Heckel

Heckel HelmarDr. Helmar Heckel, born in Germany during the II World War, was nominally raised in the State Lutheran Church. After his parents divorced and his mother remarried an American soldier, he immigrated to America in 1958. One year later, on a street corner in Topeka , KS, Helmar asked Jesus to come into his life when two faithful disciples from the Navigators shared the gospel with him. From this time on, Jesus has turned Helmar's life upside down and inside out. Changes of huge proportions began to take place in Helmar's life. His intellectual curiosity and creativity caused him by God's grace to earn a BS degree from Washburn University, (1967), a M.Div. from Bethel Seminary, (1971) and eventually a D.Min. from Fuller Seminary, (1994). He and his wife, Judy, have founded three churches in St. Cloud, Little Falls and Orono, Minnesota. He has served as Sr. Pastor, Founding Pastor and Associate Pastor and Dean of Living Faith Training Center, now known as ACTS, Antioch Christian Training School. There he shaped and formed the curriculum that has impacted many students from across America and the world.  He loves to teach and built the word of God, by God's power, into people's life for effective and eternal change.

   

Dr. Mark Herringshaw

Herringshaw MarkDr. Mark Herringshaw has been a pastor for 20 years. Before ministering in the local church he and his wife Jill were part of Youth with a Mission (YWAM). Currently Mark is a teaching pastor at North Heights Lutheran, in Arden Hills, Minnesota.  Mark is a graduate of Azusa Pacific University.  He has done graduate work at Regent College and at Luther Seminary.  In 2001 Mark completed his Ph.D. in organizational leadership from Regent University. Mark is the author of three books: Six Prayers God Always Answers, Nine Ways God Always Speaks, and The Karma of Jesus. He also does a daily prayer blog for Beliefnet.com.   

   

Rev. Dave Householder

Householder DaveRev. Dave Householder was raised in an evangelistically oriented Lutheran home, his father was the director of Evangelism for the old ALC (predecessor body of the ELCA). He received his BA from Pacific Lutheran in Tacoma, Washington, majoring in Philosophy and German. Dave received his MDiv from Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago, where he graduated Summa cum laude with an emphasis on Bible and Missions. He was a Fulbright Scholar at the University of Bonn, 1988-89, with an emphasis in New Testament. He’s a Centennial Recognized Alumnus from Pacific Lutheran University, 1990 and Ordained in the ELCA 1990.  Dave was a Church Planter at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer in Chimacum, Washington from 1990-1994, Regional Alpha Advisor since 1997, and active in Lutheran Renewal since 1995. He was also a Teaching Pastor at Hosanna! Lutheran in Lakeville, MN from 1994-2002. Currently he is Senior Pastor at Grace Lutheran in Huntington Beach, CA, 2002-present and a Church Planter at Robinwood Church, 2002-present.

   

Dr. David Howard

Howard DavidDr. David Howard Jr. is Dean of the Center for Biblical and Theological Foundations and a professor of Old Testament at Bethel Theological Seminary. Previously he was a professor of Old Testament and Hebrews at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. David received his PhD from the University of Michigan and his Masters from Wheaton College in Illinois. He was President of the Evangelical Theological Society in 2003. He also serves as chair of the Biblical Hebrew Poetry section of the Society of Biblical Literature.

   

Rev. Eric & Pam Hulstrand

Hulstrand Eric PamEric and Pam Hulstrand live in Eden Prairie, MN and serve as lead pastor and associate in ministry at Trinity Lutheran of Minnehaha Falls.  Pam is a Seminar Director for Prepare-Enrich and trains clergy and counselors to use the program.  The Hulstand’s have two teenage daughters and have been married for 20 years.  They have been a team in ministry for just as long!

   

Dr. Joe Johnson

Johnson JoeJoe Johnson served as senior minister of Grace Lutheran Church in Show Low, Arizona from 1978- 2003.  In July of 2003 he joined the pastoral staff of Grace Lutheran Church in Huntington Beach, California as pastor of care and prayer.   Joe received his Master of Divinity from Luther Seminary, St. Paul, Minnesota.  Joe and Judy lived in Oslo, Norway, from 1968-70 where Joe did his seminary internship at the American Lutheran Church in Oslo.    Fuller Seminary, Pasadena, California awarded Joe a Doctor of Ministry in 1991.  His dissertation was “Doing Jesus’ Ministry”. 

   

Dr. Ron Keller

Keller RonRon Keller has been full time ministry for 39 years. He has an undergraduate degree in Business and Advertising, an M.A. in Theology and a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology. He is a Licensed Clinical Pastoral Counselor. He is a member of five national counseling organizations. In addition to his consultant work, Ron has a private youth, marriage, family and career counseling practice where he specializes in Temperament Counseling. He provides counseling and training for leaders in corporate and church organizations. For more than 10 years, Ron has been one of the main motivational research speakers and workshop leaders at the annual National Christian Counselors Association conference for international counseling leaders.  He and/or his wife Nancy, lead marriage, pre-marriage and blended family seminars. They work with church staffs from all denominations and leaders from all professions. For twenty years they led sailing marriage retreats on Lake Superior.

   

Dr. Herb Klem

Klem HerbDr. Herb Klem recently retired from teaching at Bethel Seminary. Herb and Dr. Ralph Hammond launched Global Horizons Inc. an educational ministry of racial reconciliation for the cause of world discipleship. Herb began his teaching ministry in East New York Technical and vocational High School then took a Bible Greek major at Gordon College, Mass.  While teaching in Brooklyn he completed a MA in education then left for Nigeria, where he taught mostly in SIM's seminary for the Evangelical Churches of West Africa, on the issues of contextualization and the tasks of African Theology, helping local leaders interpret the Bible for the world views of their people. He taught two years at Daystar University in Kenya and two years at Wheaton Graduate School, with interest in "Grass Roots" theology for every day life and racial reconciliation. Herb did his doctoral studies on the concept of Jesus as an Oral Poet.  William Carey Library published his dissertation as The Oral Communication of Scripture.  He has been awarded Bethel's Outstanding Teaching award and the status of Professor Emeritus.

   

Mrs. Sharon Knudson

Knudson SharonMrs. Sharon Knudson is a freelance writer with more than 350 publications in a variety of newspapers and magazines. She has collaborated on several books, and is currently under contract with Strang Communications for a book called Women Starting from Scratch, releasing Fall 2008. She likes to teach writing courses on the skills required for effective communication/writing and procedures for getting published. Sharon is President of the 140-member Minnesota Christian Writers Guild, and in August 2000 was chosen “Writer of the Year” by the American Christian Writers Conference. She is on staff with the Lutheran Evangelistic Movement, Inc. (LEM) and is editor of The LifeLines. She also serves as a writing consultant and editor for The Master’s Institute. Sharon holds B.M.E. and M.M. degrees from Michigan State University in East Lansing.

   

Rev. Dawn Lundgren

Lundgren DawnRev. Dawn Lundgren is the President of Dawn Lundgren Ministries, Int’l, and Pastor of Cornerstone Church, Walker, MN. Although she was ordained in 1990, she felt the Holy Spirit leading her to further study, which brought her to The Master’s Institute where she received her Masters of Divinity (MDiv) in 2006. She has been credentialed with International Ministerial Fellowship (IMF) for the past 10 years. Dawn travels extensively internationally as well as in the U.S., ministering at Sunday worship services, Holy Spirit encounters, leadership trainings, evangelistic crusades, women’s conferences and retreats. Her God given pioneering spirit has often taken her into remote areas of the world where few have gone before. She ministers under the gifts, calling and power of God the Father, Jesus Christ the Son, and the Holy Spirit.  She is recognized for her strong prophetic gifting and known for her sensitivity to the Holy Spirit. Dawn & her husband Ed, have been married 51 years!

   

Dr. Mark Luttio

Luttio MarkDr. Mark David Luttio was born and raised in Japan, the son of American Lutheran missionaries.  After graduating from high school in Tokyo he came to the United States for his college education, graduating from Wheaton College in 1981 with a B.A. in philosophy.  He attended Luther Theological Seminary and was ordained a Lutheran pastor in June of 1985.  He returned to Japan and served as a missionary in the Japan Evangelical Lutheran Church.  He completed further graduate studies at the University of Notre Dame, earning his Ph.D. in theology in 1995 and taught at the Japan Lutheran Theological Seminary until 1998.  He then took a position with the faculty at Saint Mary’s College (Notre Dame, IN) teaching there until 2002.  He now resides in Boca Raton, Florida, with his wife and four children, where he serves as senior pastor at Nativity Lutheran Church, in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.  He also serves on the faculty at Lynn University and St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Seminary.

   

Rev. Kevin McClure

Kevin McClure 09Rev. Kevin McClure, Pastor of New Beginnings Christian Church, has been in pastoral ministry for nearly thirty years, serving as a church planter, worship leader, youth pastor, and conference speaker. Kevin is also serving The Master’s Institute as Dean of Students. Kevin grew up attending church regularly but describes his life in those days as a lost church go-er.  It was not until his freshman year of college that Kevin experienced a life changing encounter with Jesus Christ and began a life-long pursuit of Christ. Kevin’s message on conflict was forged out of life’s hardships and is both biblically sound and applicable. Kevin has been married for 33 years to his wife Laura. They have four grown children.

   

Dr. Thorsten Moritz

Moritz ThorstenDr. Thorsten Moritz grew up in the Black Forest, Germany, and was an exchange student in the U.S. during high school. Over the past 11 years, he taught at the University of Gloucestershire, England; Leipzig University and the Freie Theologische Akademie, both in Germany; as well as in five Romanian cities. He authored a monograph about hermeneutics in Ephesians, A Profound Mystery, and articles on the gospels, Ephesians, hermeneutics, and consumerism. Moritz is a member of the Scripture and Hermeneutics Project. He is currently writing the Mark commentary for the Two Horizons commentary series as well as another monograph on New Testament ecclesiology. His professional associations include the Tyndale Fellowship (Cambridge, England), the Arbeitskreis fur evangelikale Theologie (Tubingen, Germany), and the Society of Biblical Literature. Thorsten and his family currently live in St. Paul, Minnesota.

   

Rev. Danny Mullins

Mullins DannyRev. Danny Mullins began full-time vocational ministry in 1979.  In that time, he has served as an associate pastor in three different congregations and served 10 years as a senior pastor.  He has always been involved with worship ministry wherever he was serving.  He has spent the past nine years as associate pastor of Vineyard Community Church, Gilbert, Arizona, where he leads the worship ministry, oversees adult education and shares the pulpit duties.  He is currently completing his master's thesis for St. Stephens University, St. Stephens, New Brunswick.  He and his wife Janet have been married for 34 years and have four grown sons.

   

Rev. Per Nilsen

Nilsen PerRev. Per Nilsen has been developing Community of Hope Lutheran Church, Rosemount, MN, a rapidly growing mission congregation. Community of Hope has grown from 150 to 500 + in worship attendance and has developed a culture around the ALPHA course. Per led the Adult Discipleship and Evangelism Team at Prince of Peace, Burnsville, MN and served as an Associate Pastor in Upstate NY. He graduated from Luther Seminary in 1990. Per’s heart for evangelism emerged after meeting Christ “for the first time, again” while in treatment for drug addiction at the age of 17. He believes that Christ’s vision for the church is found in these provocative words from John’s Gospel, “Out of the believer’s heart shall flow rivers of living water.” (John 7:38)

   

Mr. Curt Rosen

Rosen CurtMr. Curt Rosen is President of World Encounter, a short-term missions mobilization ministry launched in 1996. He brings over 25 years of experience in short-term missions, social work and counseling. After graduating from Metropolitan State University in St. Paul, MN he worked for ten years in social services in Sioux Falls, SD. Curt moved to the Twin Cities in 1981 to join the staff of a college outreach ministry called InterCollegiate Fellowship Renewal (ICFR).  He has trained outreach teams for churches and parachurch ministries and traveled extensively leading outreach teams around the world.  Formerly, Curt served as Associate Director of Global Ministries at North Heights Lutheran Church in St. Paul, MN and for two years as missions pastor at The Harbor Church outside of Hastings, MN. Curt is Chairperson of The Master’s Institute Board of Directors.

   

Rev. Graeme Sellers

Sellers Graeme  smallGraeme Sellers is the lead pastor of Wonderful Mercy Church in Gilbert, Arizona. He serves on the national leadership team of the Alliance of Renewal Churches (ARC), an emerging national network of kingdom-focused congregations. He is also part of the Pastoral Host Team for PrayerQuake, a national conference focused on raising the level of prayer in the local church. Graeme has a B.A. in History from Arizona State and an M.Div. from Fuller Seminary. Graeme and his wife Jennifer have been married 16 years and have three lovely daughters.

   

Dr. Paul Spaulding

Spaulding PaulDr. Paul Spaulding attended Seattle Lutheran Bible Institute, Concordia College in Moorhead (BA), Luther Seminary (M.Div.), and Fuller Seminary (D.Min.) with a focus on the Christian message in postmodernity.  Paul served at Zion Lutheran in Minneapolis, and Community Church of Joy, Glendale, AZ, was Pastor Developer of Living Christ Community Church, Flagstaff, AZ, then Senior Pastor of Resurrection Lutheran Church in Redondo Beach, CA, and most recently a teaching pastor at Morningside Lutheran Church in Sioux City, Iowa.  In the summer of 2008 he and his wife, also a pastor, will begin a church plant in the Minneapolis Riverfront area.  Their two sons, Nick and Nathan, live in New York City and Seattle, respectively.

   

Rev. Tom Stover

Stover TomPastor Tom Stover received his MDiv degree from The Master's Institute in 2006. He is currently serving on the MI Board of Directors and working as the Pastor of Trinity First Lutheran School in Minneapolis.

   

Dr. Walter Sundberg

Sundberg WaltDr. Walter Sundberg is currently professor of Church History at Luther Seminary. He has been there since 1984. Walter has taught Systematic Theology at Luther from 1978-1981 and served as pastor at Como Park Lutheran Church from 1981-1984. He received his B.A. from St. Olaf College in 1969, received a M.Div. from Princeton Theological Seminary in 1973 and his Ph.D. in 1981.

   

Rev. Frederick C. Thoni

Thoni Fred smallRev. Frederick C. Thoni, currently a pastor at Elmwood Church, Minnesota. I graduated from Luther College, Decorah, Iowa in 1976 with a major in History with a special emphasis in Museum Studies. I spent my Junior year at the University of Nottingham, Nottingham, England. I then spent two years working at Trinity Lutheran Church, San Pedro, California in their Project Servant Program. I graduated with a Masters of Divinity from Luther Theological Seminary, St. Paul, Minnesota May 30, 1882. During my second year of seminary I spent half the year at St. John's Theological College in Bramcote, Nottingham, England. After being ordained August 8, 1982, I have served in rural parishes for eight years and it will soon be twelve years in urban ministry.

   

Rev. Robert Walter

Walter Robert 2Robert Walter is a New Englander who was lured to West Texas after college in 1977 for a career as a petroleum geologist. Now instead of developing drilling prospects, he's developing leaders in the church at home and abroad. For 15 years he worked with local leaders through the church he pastored in Midland, Texas. Now he is focusing on training key leaders for the church in Asia.  It all started 20 years ago with a one year assignment in Asia teaching English. "I like to teach - whether it's the Bible, English, drawing or fencing - it's where God uses me most."  Robert, a 1992 graduate of Fuller Seminary, is a member of the ARC leadership team.  He is exploring ways to strengthen ministry training and plant "seminaries" in local churches.

   

Rev Steve Wiese

Wiese SteveSteve Wiese, is a pastor and licensed psychologist. He divides his working life between his private practice at the Center for Christian Psychological Services, and pastoral and counselor-supervision duties at North Heights Lutheran Church. He holds a Master's degree in Counseling and Guidance from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a Master of Divinity degree from Luther Northwestern Seminary. His undergraduate studies were at Gustavus, where he majored in psychology. He and his wife, Sherry, and their five children live in Forest Lake, MN.
